Questions & answers

What tools can I replace with Steep?
Steep is a modern replacement for traditional BI tools, and solves all your business intelligence needs using the new semantic layer and metrics-based paradigm. Steep is the go-to-place for metrics, analysis, reporting and content creation for an entire organization.
Is there a different price available for viewer licenses in Steep?

TL;DR: No, Steep has no lower-priced viewer licenses, but volume discounts are available.

The philosophy in Steep is to enable everyone in your organization to do BI together, so we want to avoid limiting flexibility with viewer licenses. In Steep there is only one kind of license and it’s up to you as admin to decide who’s allowed to do what.

We do however want to support you in giving seats to all employees in your organization, and we understand that the tail end of users might be less frequently active. To that end, there are volume discounts available. Please get in touch with us to discuss.

Is Steep compliant with GDPR?
Yes. Steep acts as a Data Processor under GDPR and processes your connected data in order to deliver the service. Read more in Steep’s Data Processing Agreement.
How does Steep process my data?

Steep uses the semantic layer to generate SQL queries, and runs these queries in your connected data warehouse. The aggregated results are sent back to Steep and are cached for a limited amount of time in the Steep backend as well as in each respective client app. The default cache retention time is one hour.

The combination of the semantic layer and the cache layer helps Steep to provide a flexible, snappy experience to many end users, while minimizing the load on your data warehouse.

How do I control data access within Steep?

Steep uses both user roles, teams and resource-level sharing to control access to data and content within your workspace. Using a combination of users roles (admin/member), teams (public/private) together with metric permissions (public/private) and report permissions (share view and edit rights with users and teams) allows you to achieve your data access objectives in a flexible way.
